Banaszewski and Hohmeister Sworn In as Edina’s Newest Police
Officers
Edina, Minn., Dec. 3, 2018 – Officers Ryan Banaszewski and Eric Hohmeister took the oath of office at
Edina City Hall and officially joined the Edina Police Department as peace officers when they were sworn in at
2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Edina City Hall.
Banazewski holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Inver Hills Community College and is
currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University. Prior to
joining the Edina Police Department, Banazewski volunteered as a Washington County Deputy Reserve and a
Cottage Grove Reserve Officer. He also spent three years as a Community Service Officer with the
Woodbury Police Department.
Banazewski, badge No. 171, said he’s wanted to be a police officer his entire life. “It has been a long-term goal
of mine. I love being out in the community and moving around,” he said. “I wanted to join the EPD because
they have great community support and there are a lot of opportunities within the department.”
“As I read through Ryan’s background, I kept noticing a pattern of references that all said the same thing: Ryan
is personable, reliable, has a good work ethic and a high level of integrity and dedication,” said Police Chief
Dave Nelson, at the swearing-in ceremony.
Hohmeister, who holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Portland, Oregon, brings more
than 10 years of experience to the job having worked in California as a patrol officer, training coordinator and
commercial officer with the California Highway Patrol.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that the City of Edina and Police Department have given me,” he said. “I look
forward to serving the people of Edina.”
Hohmeister, badge No. 170, recently moved to Minnesota with his wife, who’s originally from Minnetonka.
He said if he was going to work for a police department in Minnesota, it was going to be in Edina, because of a
positive experience on a ride-along with the Edina Police Department a few years ago.
“Eric could have been easily hired by any department,” said Nelson. “We’re fortunate that he chose Edina,
and look forward to welcoming him to the team.”
