The Edina Lions donated $1,200 to the Edina Senior Center for the purchase of a new HP laptop. The donation was approved by City Council Nov. 20. Previously, when the Senior Center had a speaker or presentation, staff would have to borrow a laptop from the City Hall small pool of computers. “Every time I had a program or presentation, I would have to go over to City Hall, check out a laptop, come back, set it up, do the program and then return it,” said Recreation Supervisor Nicole Gorman, who oversees the Senior Center. “It was an inefficient use of staff time and a cumbersome process.” The Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square, hosted 99 programs this year, about double that of two years ago. When the Edina Lions asked if there was anything they could help with, Gorman knew exactly what to request. Now it will be easier and more efficient for the Senior Center to show programs such as a videoconference tour of the Hearst Castle or an explanation of long-term care options. The Edina Lions Club is part of Lions International. Its members perform community service, make donations to benefit the local community and support charitable organizations. Edina Lions President Dale Bosch said the group raises most of its money through pancake breakfasts, including those it does for graduation parties. Edina Lions also do lots of service around vision health, including free screenings for schoolchildren. Learn more by visiting Edinalions.org.
