Fisher and Quinn promoted to Assistant Chief
Edina, Minn., Dec. 17, 2018 – Pete Fisher and Ryan Quinn have been promoted to Assistant Chief with the
Edina Fire Department. Fisher began his new role as Training/Safety Chief Dec. 3 and Quinn will begin his new
role as EMS Chief Jan. 2.
“Both individuals come to their new position qualified and ready to work. Chief Fisher is eager to set a new
stage for our training program and we are excited to see him in this position,” said Fire Chief Tom Schmitz.
Fisher began his fire career with the Edina Fire Department in 2001 and worked there as a
Paramedic/Firefighter until 2017 when he was selected for a special assignment as Task Force Administrator
for Minnesota Task Force One, a 200-member Urban Search & Rescue Task Force. From 2012 to 2018,
Fisher also held multiple leadership roles with the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department.
While he said he misses many aspects of shift life, he has always been interested in the training side of fire
service.
“During my time as Task Force Administrator, I found that my favorite parts of the job were creating and
facilitating our core, continuing and specialty training. I taught when I could, but my opportunities were
limited,” said Fisher, who also said he looks forward to the challenges his new role will bring.
Fisher holds two associate degrees: one in Emergency Health Services from Inver Hills Community College
and another in Fire Science Technology from Hennepin Technical College. He’s currently pursuing his
bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul.
“Being a firefighter is the greatest job in the world,” said Fisher. “Our firefighters have a difficult job, and I
want to make sure they have what they need to stay safe, and that they remain well-trained.”
Quinn’s role with the Edina Fire Department is a newly created position designed to streamline all of the
emergency medical services efforts.
“As a shift captain, Chief Quinn never lost sight for his passion as a paramedic and our EMS program,” said
Schmitz. “He is the perfect fit for the position and brings a lot of energy, which he will need as he creates and
defines this new position within the organization.”
Quinn worked as a firefighter for the cities of Bloomington and Denver in the late 1990s, and as a paramedic
for Hennepin Healthcare from 2002 to 2013. He joined the Edina Fire Department in 2005 as a
Paramedic/Firefighter and was promoted to Fire Captain in 2013. Quinn also currently serves as a Paramedic
on the Minnesota DMAT-1 team, where he supports medical efforts during national disasters.

“I look forward to the collaborations that this job will entail,” said Quinn.
“We’re hoping with this new position that our emergency medical services
efforts will be better streamlined to improve efficiencies and increase our
effectiveness.”
