Finance Department Receives Reporting Awards
Edina, Minn., Jan. 24, 2019 – The City of Edina’s comprehensive and popular financial reports for the year
ended Dec. 31, 2017, were awarded Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Reporting by Government
Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Certificate of Achievement is the
highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial accounting.
This was the 12th consecutive year the City has received this prestigious award for the comprehensive annual
financial report and the 4th consecutive year the City has received it for the popular annual financial report,
which has been published as the July issue of the City newsletter Edition: Edina.
“The Finance Department is honored to again be awarded Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in
Reporting,” said Assistant Finance Director Kyle Sawyer.
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement for a comprehensive annual financial report, a
government much publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual financial report. This report must
satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
To receive an award in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual
Financial Report, with content conforming to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability
and reader appeal.
