Timeline – October 15 – City Council Check-in February 2020 – Community Open House(s) February 2020 – Present Plan to City Council Topics for further discussion/investigation – Edina becomes a “sponge city” encompassing a multitude of approaches Land Use policies/zoning changes Regular maintenance of current storm water system Changes at street replacement/reconstruction time i.e., increase size of storm water pipes, lowering/sloping streets (Southdale Road), installation of water storage tanks, use of pervious materials Pervious pavers for streets/driveways/patios Storm water retention ponds – where can they be added? Where are current ponds located? Predictive pumping of Weber Pond / Adding additional storage to Weber Pond Flood walls/gabions Snow melt issues, including “snow storage” Prepare for repeat of 1987 Flood Property Buyout/converting land to ponds/parks Future weather patterns Form a joint effort with Nine Mile Creek & Minnehaha Creek Water Shed Districts, the cities of Minneapolis, Minnetonka, St Louis Park & Hopkins Underground Storage Review Netherlands flood controls Homeowners – sump pumps, rain gardens, re-grading landscape, clear storm drains (Adopt a Drain), flood insurance, swales Establish a city-wide record keeping system of homes with flooding issues. (Sandbag delivery – calls?) “People” cost – financially and emotionally
