Having more recycling bins to place in key spots will increase the collection of recycling from both the public and staff. In addition, the City will have clear, concise signs on the new containers to make them easy for people to identify and use correctly, Recreation Supervisor Nicole Gorman wrote in the grant application. “We already have recycling containers at our parks and enterprise facilities, but adding them in more spots will increase the visibility of recycling and encourage more people to participate,” Gorman said. “The more recycling we collect, the less that goes into the waste stream.” The new containers are planned to be distributed as follows: Braemar Golf Course – 45 containers to be paired with trash cans at each hole of both golf courses and also at the driving range, clubhouse entrances and at the Golf Dome. Braemar Arena – 28 new containers would augment existing ones. The Arena’s number of visitors and on-site concessions produce a lot of recycling. City Parks – 12 containers to be distributed at some of the parks. Edinborough Park – 7 to be paired with existing trash bins in the commons area, near concessions, around Adventure Peak and on the Birthday Party Plateau. Adventure Peak and the birthday party area currently lack recycling containers. Centennial Lakes Park – 6 requested to pair with existing trash cans in the most heavily used areas. Edina Senior Center – 6 to be paired with existing trash bins around the center and replace the three existing cans-only bins. Edina Art Center – 2 receptacles to be paired with existing trash cans. Edina’s grant was the largest of the three given by Hennepin County. Brooklyn Park and St. Louis Park also received grants for recycling containers.
