The Step To It Challenge is a free four-week competition among 25 communities in Hennepin County to promote getting active. Participants track their activities, from hard-core exercise to mopping the floor or gardening, and convert them into steps. Mary Hischke won the age 65 and over category in Edina, recording 817,009 steps. That placed Edina in the top 10 for steppers in that age bracket by community. Both of them received tickets to a Minnesota Twins game and will be recognized on the field at Target Field for their accomplishments. Other participants won T-shirts or Twins tickets via random drawings. “The Step To It Challenge wrapped up on May 28 and Edina had a successful first year,” said Recreation Supervisor Nicole Gorman, who organized Edina’s inaugural participation. “Thank you to those who chose to participate in Edina’s first year offering this health initiative.” Overall Edina placed 16th for total steps.
