John Greene Sworn In as Edina’s Newest Officer
Edina, Minn., June 26, 2019 – Officer John Greene took the oath of office at Edina City Hall and officially joined the Edina Police Department (EPD) as a Police Officer when he was
sworn in 3 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Edina City Hall.
Greene holds two bachelor’s degrees in Arts Criminology and Business Administration Management from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He completed his POST certification at Metropolitan
State University. No stranger to the department, Greene worked as a Community Service Officer for the EPD for more than a year. Prior to his return, Greene worked as a Police Officer
for the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department in Shorewood, Minnesota.
Greene, badge No. 172, said he wanted to become a Police Officer after his stint as a Resident Advisor in college where he worked closely with the University Police Department.
“I saw firsthand the positive impact that officers had with the community,” he said. “After participating in a ride along with one of the officers, I knew I wanted to pursue a career
in law enforcement.”
“During his time with us as a Community Service Officer, it didn’t take long to realize he had a good work ethic,” said Police Chief Dave Nelson during the swearing-in ceremony. “When
our current application process closed, I was pleased to see John’s name on the applicant list. My first thought was ‘John wants to come home.’ As John was already part of our family,
I’ll just say, ‘welcome home, John. We missed you.’”
