Firefighters arrived to a working fire in the garage of a single-family home, and were able to quickly extinguish it. The fire was contained to the garage, where most of the fire and heat damage occurred. However, smoke entered the house. There were no injuries. The fire is suspected to have started from the accumulation of various painting chemicals stored closely together, such as paint thinners and stain. “The residents were quick to escape the house and call 911, which is the most important,” said Fire Inspector Brian Hanrahan. “It’s also easy to accumulate painting chemicals, but it’s important to clean them out regularly and to make sure they are properly disposed.” The Edina Fire Department was assisted by the Edina Police Department and received mutual aid from the Richfield Fire Department.
