Council Member Staunton Completes Term Serving Cities Across the State
Edina, Minn., July 11, 2019 – Edina City Council Member Kevin Staunton completed his term on the Board of Directors of the League of Minnesota Cities at the end of June, closing out
three years of service to Minnesota cities.
The League of Minnesota Cities is a statewide member organization representing 833 of Minnesota’s 853 cities. The Board of Directors is responsible for leading the organization in a
way that is strategic, responsible and representative of all cities’ interests.
Staunton was elected in 2016 to serve in this important leadership role. His experience as both an elected official as well as a city attorney in his professional capacity informed board
directives such as the launch of the League’s race equity work.
“Kevin’s experience provided a distinctive balance and perspective to the board,” said League Executive Director David Unmacht. “Kevin is also a consummate good person who is highly
deliberative, thoughtful and professional. We thank him for his service to Minnesota cities.”
Staunton also made sure that he connected with colleagues in Greater Minnesota during his term to strengthen relationships and build shared understanding of city issues statewide. He
took part in several member engagement visits this past winter, facing extreme weather in some cases to reach cities in northern Minnesota.
Kevin continues to serve in his roles as City Council Member in Edina and as city attorney in the City of Excelsior.
The League of Minnesota Cities is a membership organization dedicated to helping cities throughout Minnesota build quality communities through effective advocacy, expert analysis, trusted
guidance and collective action. The League serves its more than 830 member cities through advocacy, education and training, policy development, risk management, and other services.
