Two businesses were recognized as bronze-level Green Businesses during the third quarter of 2019: Lush Cosmetics, 3915 W. 50th St., and Starbucks, 3939 W. 50th St. “Both businesses were recognized for their efforts to reduce waste. Lush is a leader in involving their employees and customers in greening their business,” said City Management Fellow Casey Casella. “The 50th & France Lush store has an ‘eco-warrior’ who tracks the store's waste and makes sure they are on track to reduce what they send to the landfill. Starbucks uses a Ground for your Garden program to convert used coffee grounds to fertilizer.” Since its launch in May 2019, six Edina businesses have earned the Green Business Recognition in gold, silver and bronze levels. Businesses earn points for taking green actions within their daily operations in the areas of solid waste, recycling, purchasing, energy use, landscaping and water conservation, transportation and more. Businesses can earn recognition as a gold, silver or bronze Green Business and will be able to post their recognition level publicly for shoppers. Businesses must earn 25 points to receive bronze recognition, 40 for silver and 55 for gold recognition. To maintain their recognition level, businesses are required to resubmit their application annually. “Businesses are taking steps to be sustainable and green and this program is highlighting those efforts. Many businesses already qualify for Green Business Recognition, they just need to complete the form to be acknowledged. For other businesses, it’s a matter of making a few small changes to processes and we hope this recognition program is the catalyst for making those changes,” said Commissioner Michelle Horan. Businesses of all types are encouraged to apply. Learn more and apply online at EdinaMN.gov/Sustainable. For more information, contact Casella at ccasella@EdinaMN.gov. -30-
