No Arrest Made in Weekend Graffiti at Local School
Edina, Minn., Nov. 5, 2019 – The Edina Police Department has completed its investigation of a weekend case of graffiti at a local elementary school.
The Edina Police Department responded to a “miscellaneous public” call at 2:14 p.m. on Nov. 2, about graffiti on a shed behind Concord Elementary School, 5900 Concord Ave. The letters
“TOE,” a phallic symbol and swastika were drawn in chalk on the wall of the shed. The responding officer photographed the graffiti, washed it off and then alerted the School Resource
Officers of the incident, who began working with school district officials Monday, Nov. 4.
After school district surveillance footage was reviewed, a juvenile was quickly identified as a person of interest and interviewed Tuesday, Nov. 5. During the interview, the juvenile
confessed to the graffiti. Because there was no permanent damage to the school district’s property, there was not a crime with which to charge the juvenile.
“Swastika are offensive and not condoned in our community,” said City Manager Scott Neal. “Incidents such as this do not reflect the sentiments of the community. We must continue to
work together to make Edina welcoming for all.”
