The event will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Hughes Pavilion in Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave. S. Attendees can gather at Hughes Pavilion prior to the celebration for a walking tour to the “School of (Fish)” sculpture and finish with a warm drink and treats back at Hughes Pavilion. This installation is the result of a year-long partnership between the ACC and Edina Public Schools. Last school year, students submitted artwork inspired by the concept of “Better Together,” the term given to the City’s goal of building a more inclusive and engaged community. Eighty grade-school students in the Edina school district participated in a student sculpture competition to create a 3-D sculpture that represents what Better Together means to them. Concord Elementary School fifth-grader Alex Wyatt’s work was selected as one of eight winners and ultimately chosen by the Edina Arts & Culture Commission and commissioned artists to be developed into a public art sculpture. Earlier this summer, the ACC selected artists Alan and Nicole Milligan from The Milligan Studio to develop a piece for public art based on the maquette completed by Wyatt. “We work in schools and enjoy working with students. Their creativity is very inspiring,” said Nicole Milligan. “Wyatt came to this project with great vision and heart. This boy has this sense of what community is about.” The piece is made up of stainless steel, bronze and glass. “School of (Fish)” was funded through the ACC and Edina Community Foundation.
