Bob Benson and Bob Reed, two members of the Edina Veterans Memorial Committee, provided leadership in choosing a foundry. After careful review, they selected Wally Shoop Sr. and his company, Shoop’s American Bronze Casting, Ltd., located just across the Wisconsin border, about an hour’s drive northeast of Edina. Shoop will cast a bronze eagle sitting atop a wreath. His eagles are exceptional art pieces – each one unique and exquisitely detailed. His realistic bronze art is produced with the intent of capturing human feelings within natural forms. Shoop’s American Bronze Casting pieces are handmade using the lost wax process of bronze casting. Casting should begin in the coming weeks. There will be a dedication on Veterans Day – Nov. 11, 2014. The Committee is now working to raise enough in donations to cover the costs of this eye-catching and extraordinary memorial. The Edina Veterans Memorial celebrates Edina’s rich and proud legacy of patriotic service, which extends back to the Civil War. The memorial will be a unifying symbol of shared community values and sentiment, honoring all Edina veterans from our past, present and future. Edina has lost 32 native and adopted sons during wartime. All will be individually recognized at the Veterans Memorial in Utley Park, located at the intersection of 50th Street and Wooddale Avenue.
