Early Morning Fire Damages Home
Edina, Minn., May 22, 2014 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 6400 block of West Shore
Drive shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday, May 22, after receiving reports of smoke seen from Minnesota Highway
62.
Fire crews discovered a working fire upon arrival, which had already engulfed the home’s garage where the
fire was believed to have started. The fire extended into the home, causing significant damage to the
structure. There was also minor heat damage to one of the homes next door.
Edina Fire Marshal Jeff Siems said had the home had a residential fire sprinkler system, damage would have
been minimal.
“Not only can a residential fire sprinkler system prevent a fire from creating significant property damage to a
home, it can save lives,” he said.
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from Hopkins, Richfield and St. Louis Park for the two-alarm
fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
