The parade begins at 10 a.m. behind Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. “Edina is convenient to get to for a lot of people, and our early start time – 10 a.m. – makes it a perfect way to kick off the Fourth,” noted Edina Community Foundation Parade Planning Committee Chair John Swon. The music and entertainment units in the parade will include the Minnesota Police Pipe Band, Edina Community Middle School Summer Band, Edina Baton Twirlers and Cheerleaders, Edina Chorale, Chicks on Sticks, Zuhrah Shrine Funsters, First John Phillip Sousa Memorial Band, Jughead Youth Jugglers, Brio Brass Band, Barbi Lee Dancers, Minnesota SuperHeroes United and FM Riot. “It’s one of our largest community events; it brings out neighbors of all ages to celebrate Independence Day,” said Parade Planning Committee Member Marsha Buchok. “Its’ a terrific way to be patriotic and support your community and it’s just a lot of fun.” The 2014 parade is organized by the Edina Community Foundation with support from the City of Edina. This year’s theme is “a salute to Edina’s volunteers” and will feature a special recognition and salute to the military veterans and Edina's Police and Fire departments. The parade begins behind Edina City Hall at Eden Avenue and Willson Road (just east of Minnesota Highway 100) and proceeds one mile east on 50th Street to the U.S. Bank parking lot at Halifax Avenue. Presenting sponsors are Lunds/Byerly’s and U.S. Bank. In addition, Independence Day celebrators will again hear the First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band in the evening before fireworks light up the sky. The music begins at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks, sponsored by Fairview Southdale Hospital, begin at 10 p.m. The First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band has been playing at the Fourth of July celebration at Rosland Park before the fireworks since 1970.
