From now through Sept. 30, 2014, the public can vote in the People’s Choice Awards for their favorite sculptures. “It really is fun and it … promotes Edina as a top-quality city in the state,” explained Public Art Working Group Chair Barbara La Valleur. “You don’t have to live in Edina, but you can only vote once.” The first-place award winner will receive $1,000, the second-place award will receive $750 and the third-place award will receive $500. The People’s Choice Award winners will be invited to exhibit their sculptures for an additional year for which they will each receive honorariums of $500. Voting can be done through the mobile app “Edina To Go,” online at www.EdinaPublicArt.org or in person at Centennial Lakes Hughes Pavilion, Edinborough Park, Edina Art Center, Edina City Hall or the Edina Senior Center. This year, the Public Art Working Group selected 11 new sculptures for display. They include:  “Density Housing for the Modern Urban Fairy” by Allison Ruby, located on the Edina Promenade  “Mantle” by Steve Elliott, located on the Edina Promenade  “Dynamic Duo” by James Bearden, located on the Edina Promenade  “Faith, Hope, Love” by James Gabbert, located on the Edina Promenade  “Roman Astrolabe” by Peter Vanni, located on the Edina Promenade  “Medicine Wheel” by Kevin Komadina and Joel Carter, located on the Edina Promenade  “Honk!” by Chris Gustafson, located at 50th & France  “How to Build a Birdhouse” by Michael E. Kmiotek, located at 50th & France  “3 Dancing Sand Hill Cranes” by Jim Dehne, located at 50th & France  “Argonaut” by James Bearden, located at Grandview Square Park  “Leaping Hare” by Nick Legeros, located at Grandview Square Park The 11 sculptures in the rotating exhibit will be on display from June 2014 through May 2015. Edina Public Art, a working group of the Arts & Culture Commission, encourages community members to visit each display. Several other permanent public art displays can be found throughout the City. All sculptures will be actively marketed for purchase by the Public Art Working Group to individuals and local businesses.
