The open house will be held 7 to 9 p.m. at the Public Works and Park Maintenance Facility, 7450 Metro Blvd. In March, the City Council accepted the recommendation to close Fred Richards Golf Course, 7640 Parklawn Ave., at the end of the 2014 season. The City will have an public input process that will be open to and inclusive of all residents of Edina. “The process will include significant public input, including public meetings, site walks and workshops,” explained Parks & Recreation Director Ann Kattreh. “The end product will be a report of findings with recommendations and vision with graphics and concepts. At the completion of the this visioning, public input and design process, the City will be well positioned to hire a landscape architect to complete a final master plan design with construction documents.” The parameters of the proposed park design plan will be compatible with the adjoining land uses; sensitive to environmental concerns of the site; connected and not intrusive to adjoining neighboring properties; and coordinated with Three Rivers Park District, Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail and the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District. Kattreh and the Parks & Recreation Department will strive to ensure that the park design plan will be generally supported by participants, be consistent with the Council’s park design parameters, provide an estimated development and annual operating budget and serve as the framework for a master plan that will include construction plans and bidding documents. The park design will undergo a review process with the Park Board and ultimately receive final approval from the City Council. Kattreh hopes to take the recommendations to the Park Board for review on Oct. 14 and receive final approval from the City Council on Oct. 21.
