Feedback Sought For Fred Richards Park
Edina, Minn., June 12, 2014 – What type of park and what amenities do you want at Fred Richards? The
City wants to hear your ideas as it moves forward to develop a design plan for Fred Richards Park, 7640
Parklawn Ave.
In March, the City Council accepted the recommendation of staff and the Park Board to close Fred Richards
Executive Golf Course at the end of the 2014 season. In April, the City Council authorized a consulting
services proposal for a reuse study and visioning for a master plan for the park land. The visioning process
began June 12 with an open house.
“We hope to receive a very significant amount of feedback from residents throughout Edina on this very
important project,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ann Kattreh. “We are trying to reach out in as many
ways possible to solicit feedback and ideas through the visioning process. Residents will have many
opportunities in person or via the website to provide feedback. Check the website regularly for updates on
meeting days and times, and the status of the project.”
Ideas and feedback on what types of park residents would like to see, and specific amenities and activities
residents would like to see accommodated are accepted online and in writing through Sept. 30. Residents are
encouraged to express their ideas online at www.EdinaParks.com or www.SpeakUpEdina.org. Written
comments can be dropped off at City Hall or mailed to Edina City Hall, Parks & Recreation Department, 4801
W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55424.
“All ideas and information will be gathered and considered,” Kattreh said. “Residents will have opportunities
to consider and provide feedback as the planning process progresses.”
Kattreh and the Parks & Recreation Department will strive to ensure that participants will generally support
the park design plan by including what residents think are the best uses for the land. A plan for the park will
also be compatible with adjoining land uses, be sensitive to environmental concerns, be connected and not
intrusive to neighboring properties and coordinated with local and regional partners.
The park design will undergo a review process with the Park Board and ultimately receive final approval from
the City Council. Kattreh hopes to take the recommendations to the Park Board for review on Oct. 14 and
receive final approval from the City Council on Oct. 21.
