Edina Planning Commission Seeks Applications For Open Seat
Edina, Minn., July 9, 2014 – The City of Edina seeks applications to fill a vacancy on its Planning
Commission.
The Planning Commission is a group of nine volunteer residents appointed by the City Council to hold
hearings and provide recommendations to the Council on land use matters. The Council relies on the
Planning Commission as an advisory body to hold hearings, gather input and provide the Council with expert
planning advice based on city codes and the comprehensive plan.
Interested individuals should expect to devote at least six to 10 hours each month attending and preparing for
the twice-monthly meetings. The Commission meets in the evenings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of
each month. Commissioners are eligible to participate in additional working groups and studies as time and
interest allows.
Community Development Director Cary Teague, who serves as staff liaison to the Planning Commission,
encourages all interested individuals to apply. “We have a wide variety [of experience on the Commission],
which is key for us. We have experts in the planning field – including attorneys, architects [and] landscape
architects – and those who are not experts and bring a different perspective,” he explained.
Applications will be accepted until July 31. Interviews will be conducted immediately in early August. Visit
