HomeMy WebLinkAboutSept. 18 - Braemar Master Plan Consultant City of Edina • 4801 W. 50th St. • Edina, MN 55424 Contact: Lauryn Grimes, Communications Intern Phone 952-833-9522 • CommIntern@EdinaMN.gov • www.EdinaMN.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE City Chooses Consultant for Braemar Master Plan Edina, Minn., Sept. 18, 2014 – Richard Mandell, a golf course architecture firm based in Pinehurst, North Carolina, has been hired to help create a road map for Braemar Golf Course for future years to come. “We’re very excited to have [Mandell] on our team,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ann Kattreh. “He is a solid leader for this type of a project and has tremendous experience.” Mandell’s role will be to provide a full analysis of the golf course and, based on the vision of Braemar staff and the task force, make suggestions on how to make it more playable, fun and inclusive for all abilities and ages of golfers. “It’s a golf course that has extremely good bones,” said Braemar Golf Course General Manager Joe Abood. “The layout is very good; it just needs to be updated.” Possible changes to the course could include changing the location of some of the bunkers, changing the size of some of the greens and trying to create better angles to the greens. “[Mandell will] give us a good idea as to how to make the course more relevant going toward the next 50 years,” said Abood, noting that the City will mark the 50th anniversary of the course Sept. 25-27. “[This process will make] the golf course, overall, more playable and more attractive to people of all abilities.” “We’re working to secure Braemar as the premier public golf course,” said Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Susan Faus. “Making these improvement and investments in the course will attract more golfers.” “Richard Mandell recently completed a very highly regarded and highly successful renovation at Keller Golf Course in Maplewood,” Kattreh noted. “Our renovation should create the same excitement that Keller is experiencing.” The first stage in the process is conducting a series of walk-throughs with the consultant, which will provide an opportunity to hear from a wide variety of golfers and non-golfers about what they would like to see at Braemar.
