To slow the spread of COVID-19, Mayor Jim Hovland has signed an Executive Order requiring people to wear face masks inside public spaces in Edina. The order will go into effect Monday, July 6. The Mayor can enact an emergency proclamation for three days. The City Council will hold the special meeting to consider extending the policy. The Council could also revise or rescind the order. Under the policy, people in Edina must cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth face covering. According to the order, this includes retail establishments and City-owned public facilities like City Hall. Masks do not need to be worn inside the City’s recreation facilities, like Braemar Arena and Edinborough Park, when social distancing can be maintained. There are other exceptions. Facial coverings do not need to be worn by people who are eating or drinking, children under the age of 5, people with medical conditions that make it difficult to breathe, those who are deaf or hard of hearing or those who care for or interact with them, and people who are unable to remove a mask without assistance. The July 8 meeting will be broadcast live on Edina TV (Comcast Channels 813 or 16), Facebook.com/EdinaMN and the City’s “Watch a Meeting” web page at EdinaMN.gov/LiveMeetings.
