Review and Comments Sought on Draft Climate Action Plan
Edina, Minn., Sept. 3, 2021 – A draft of Edina’s first Climate Action Plan is complete and ready for people to read, review and submit comments.
The plan includes chapters on greenspace and trees, local food and agriculture, water, transportation and more. It was put together over several months by the Climate Action Plan Team
made up of 16 community members with the assistance of eight technical City staff members and facilitator paleBLUEdot.
“This was written by your neighbors, by your co-workers,” said Sustainability Coordinator Grace Hancock. It’s intended to help those who live or work in Edina imagine and achieve a future
where the Earth and all who live on it thrive.
The overall plan is lengthy but has been divided into chapters to make it easier to review and comment.
People can comment on a single chapter, several chapters or the entire plan.
People can stop at any time and resume later. The system will save their comments and progress.
Each chapter opens with a summary, followed by more in-depth information. People can comment after reading the summary or dive in further if they choose.
“We really want people to focus on the chapters and topics that interest or concern them the most,” Hancock said.

Comments must be submitted by Oct. 1.
Volunteers will be at the Centennial Lakes Farmers Market and the Fall Into the Arts Festival to inform people of the Climate Action Plan and answer questions. Look for their booth 3-7
p.m. Thursdays in September at the market or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 11 or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the festival. Both events are at Centennial Lakes Park, 7499 France Ave.
Public comments will be reviewed by the Climate Action Plan team and incorporated into a final plan, which is expected to be presented to the Energy & Environment Commission (EEC) Oct.
14. The EEC will review the plan before recommending the City Council approve it. The City is expected to approve a final plan by the end of the year so first steps can begin in 2022.
