Residents and community members voted online and at various in-person voting locations to select three People’s Choice Award winners. The winners of this year’s People’s Choice Awards include “Leaping Hare” by Nicholas Legeros in first place, “Dancing Sand Hill Cranes” by Jim Dehne in second place and “Argonaut” by James Bearden in third place. Legeros, with the winning sculpture, is an Edina resident, while the second and third place entries came from Newton, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa, respectively. “While ‘Leaping Hare’ was resoundingly selected as the people’s favorite, the vast majority of sculptures were separated by only 11 votes,” noted Public Art Edina Chair Barbara LaValluer. “That speaks to the quality and diversity of our exhibit, as well as the enjoyment of our public art exhibit.” All eligible entries included:  “Density Housing for the Modern Urban Fairy” by Allison Ruby, located on the Edina Promenade  “Mantle” by Steve Elliott, located on the Edina Promenade  “Dynamic Duo” by James Bearden, located on the Edina Promenade  “Faith, Hope, Love” by James Gabbert, located on the Edina Promenade  “Roman Astrolabe” by Peter Vanni, located on the Edina Promenade  “Medicine Wheel” by Kevin Komadina & Joel Carter, located on the Edina Promenade  “Honk!” by Chris Gustafson, located at 50th & France  “How to Build a Birdhouse” by Michael E. Kmiotek, located at 50th & France  “3 Dancing Sand Hill Cranes” by Jim Dehne, located at 50th & France  “Argonaut” by James Bearden, located at Grandview Square Park  “Leaping Hare” by Nick Legeros, located at Grandview Square Park All 11 sculptures in the rotating exhibit will be on display through May 2015. Recipients of the People’s Choice Award winners receive $1,000, $750 and $500 respectively and are invited to show their sculptures for an additional year for which theywill receive another $500 stipend. Public Art Edina encourages community members to visit each display. Several other permanent public art displays can be found throughout the City.
