Reward Offered, Photos Released of Carjacking Suspects
Edina, Minn., Dec. 10, 2021— A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the teenagers involved in an attempted carjacking in Edina Thursday,
Dec. 9.
At 5:01 p.m. Dec. 9, Edina Police Officers were dispatched to Lunds & Byerlys at 3945 W. 50th St. for a carjacking in progress. Four Black teenage males tried to take an occupied vehicle
in the outdoor parking lot by force when two Good Samaritans attempted to help. Three people were injured in the incident, one seriously and taken to North Memorial Hospital and released
later in the evening. It is not believed weapons were used, but the car owner and Good Samaritans were injured during the confrontation. The two others were treated at the scene for
injuries.
The Police Department has released photos of some of the suspects and the vehicle investigators believe to be involved with the incident. The vehicle is a white 2016 GMC Acadia with
license plate “207 VNR,” which was previously reported stolen from St. Louis Park. One of the teens was wearing a hooded black coat with a fur hood. The other was wearing light-colored
jeans and hoodie and black beanie.
Edina Police Investigators believe the suspects were involved with other incidents in the area, including an attempted carjacking in St. Louis Park earlier in the day. Edina Police continues
to work with agencies across the metropolitan area to investigate and solve the crimes.
Anyone with information should call the Edina Police Department’s non-emergency line, 952-826-1600, any time of day. Your identity may remain confidential If the stolen vehicle is spotted,
call 911 and do not approach the vehicle or attempt to make contact.
Because of a rise in auto thefts, burglaries and thefts from autos, the Edina Police Department has increased patrols, paying officers overtime to deter such crimes. Residents can do
their part by locking homes and vehicles, taking keys and valuables with them and remaining vigilant.
“We share residents' concern and frustration with the increase in these types of crimes in our community,” said Police Chief Todd Milburn. “We are doing all that we can with agencies
across the metro to investigate these crimes and bring those involved to justice. We are hopeful that the reward will help encourage someone out there with information to come forward
and work with us.”
The reward is offered by the Edina Crime Prevention Fund, the sole judge of any point of contention regarding the reward. Any decision on any issue connected with the reward is final.
