SafeCam allows Edina residents and businesses to voluntarily register their security cameras so detectives will know who to contact in the event a crime occurred at or near an area in which a camera is installed. The tool will not provide the Police Department access to privately owned security camera systems without the owner’s permission, and participation in the program is completely voluntarily. “The goal of this program is to partner with our residents and businesses so we can quickly find video security footage when a crime takes place,” said Police Chief Todd Milburn. “By giving our investigators a database of security cameras in the city, we will be able to save time and more efficiently find information to help solve a crime.” Owners of the security cameras will maintain confidentiality and their personal information will not be distributed except as required by law or court order. Participants may opt out of the program at any time by calling the Police Department at 952-826-1610. For more information or to sign up, visit EdinaMN.gov/Safecam or call 952-826-1610. -30-
