2006 Transportation Budget

1. Call to Order
Chair Richards called the meeting to order. He explained that this special meeting was called to discuss a
recommendation to the Council that they consider an increase in the transportation budget for a traffic study and
public relations campaign relative to traffic issues.
II Old Business
a. 2006 City of Edina Budgeting (transportation budgeting recommendation)
Lillehaug stated that staff is requesting that Council increase the 2006 transportation budget to include $50,000
for a traffic study of West 70th Street and $5,000 for public relations campaign to educate the public on traffic
issues. Staff is seeking the support of the ETC.
West 70th Street Traffic Study
Lillehaug explained that staff has not yet identified the scope of the study, but it will include the issues identified in
the 2002-03 Traffic Task Force report. The study will reflect changes that are long term (20-40 years) and all
changes must meet Mn/DOT’s standard because West 70th is a state aid road. It is anticipated that a consultant
would do the study.
A motion was made by Bennett to recommend that Council increase the transportation budget by $50,000
for the West 70th Street Traffic Study (on the basis that the policy that the ETC adopted place West 70th
Street in second place on the NTMP Ranking and Scoring of streets needing attention due to congestion
and/or other traffic issues). Motion seconded by White.

Motion carried.
Public Relations Campaign Budget
The funds would cover advertisements in the Sun, local access channel, brochures and flyers.
A motion was made by White to recommend that Council increase the transportation budget by $5,000 for
a public relations campaign. Motion seconded by Plante.

Nays – 0
Motion Carried.
