White Named Edina’s Deputy Police Chief
Edina, Minn., Aug. 22, 2022 – A 16-year veteran of the Edina Police Department has been named Deputy Police Chief.
Aaron White was promoted to the position, effective Aug. 22. “Aaron brings a wide range of leadership skills to this position, and his diverse background will serve our department very
well,” said Police Chief Todd Milburn in making the announcement.
The Deputy Police Chief supports and assists the Police Chief in the planning, coordination and supervision of the Police Department personnel and in ensuring Police protection of the
city. Specifically, the Deputy Chief oversees day-to-day operations of the department, helps plan and manage the department’s budget, manages the department’s major projects and directly
supervises the Patrol, Investigations and Administrative Lieutenants.
White earned an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Normandale Community College and bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement from Metropolitan State University. He was hired by the
Edina Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2006 and held assignments as School Resource Officer, Investigator, Crisis Negotiation Team Leader, Field Training Officer and Crime Scene
Photographer before being promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant. Before beginning his career in law enforcement, White spent 12 years working in engineering and I.T. management within
the broadcast radio industry.
Some of White’s recent projects include managing the implementation of a new multi-agency computer-aided dispatch and records management system, implementing the body-worn camera program
and overseeing the department’s online scheduling system. Among other things, he has also researched and prepared the Police Department’s annual budget since 2017.
“Our staff at EPD are among the very best, which has allowed us to navigate the many new challenges faced by law enforcement in recent years,” White said. “My title and responsibilities
are changing, but my focus will remain the same: supporting our awesome team, finding the opportunity in each new challenge and making sure we continue to provide exceptional service
to our entire community.”
White succeeds Jeff Elasky in the position. Elasky retired Aug. 19 after 30 years with the department.
