Edina Police Welcomes New Officers
Edina, Minn., Aug. 23, 2022 – The Edina Police Department recently welcomed three new Patrol Officers to its ranks. Officers Bennett Breyer, Johnathan Rasmussen and Tony Woldness each
took the oath to serve the community at an Aug. 23 ceremony at Edina City Hall.
Breyer was promoted to Officer earlier this month after working as a Community Service Officer for three years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University
of St. Thomas, is a former member of the Edina/Eden Prairie Police Explorers Post and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2019. Badge 106 was pinned on Breyer by his parents.
Rasmussen was promoted to Officer earlier this month after working as a Community Service Officer for nearly two years. A former member of the Minnetonka Police Explorers Post, he earned
an associate degree from Normandale Community College and is currently pursing a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Metropolitan State University. Badge 126 was pinned on Rasmussen
by his parents.
Woldness joined the Police Department as an Officer in April. He previously worked for the Le Seuer and Belle Plaine Police Departments. In Le Sueuer, he was the use of force instructor
and held the position of Sergeant. Prioer to his full-time career in law enforcement, he worked for the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. He holds an associate
degree from Minneapolis Community & Technical College. Badge 101 was pinned on Woldness by co-worker Emily Jepson, the department’s Community Engagement Officer.
Also at the ceremony, Milburn recognized two promotions in the department.
David Venne was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in January. Venne joined the department in 2009 after a 23-year career at Target. He worked as an Officer until 2015 when he was promoted
to Sergeant. Venne was part of the Crisis Negotiations Team until 2019, when he worked with Officer Jason Behr to start up the department’s Drone Team. He holds a bachelor’s degree
from St. Mary’s University.
Anna Eckstein was promoted to Sergeant in March. She joined the Police Department in 2014 after earning an associate degree in law enforcement from Inver Hills Community College and
bachelor’s degree in political science from St. Mary’s University.
