City of Edina ‘Big Trucks’ Open House Returns May 19
Edina, Minn., April 26, 2022 – The City of Edina will host a free, family-friendly “Big Trucks” open house 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Public Works & Park Maintenance Facility,
7450 Metro Blvd. The open house will take place during National Public Works Week, a week dedicated to celebrating public works professionals.
Typically held every two years, the event is back for the first time in four years after being on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about how Public Works, Engineering and Park Maintenance serve the Edina community in a fun and interactive way. Attendees can explore vehicles
like a log loader, street sweeper or paver, look at different types of hand and power tools, take pictures, and ask City staff questions.
“You don’t see the big trucks and unique equipment we have every day, even on a construction site. We’ve got very specialized equipment to clean and maintain the infrastructure we own,”
said Public Works Coordinator Dave Goergen.
Goergen says the event is intended to provide residents with an inside look at City operations.
“There are so many steps that happen behind the scenes before we start doing the work that the public sees. Any glimpse we can give the community into the planning process helps strengthen
the overall understanding of what we do and why. In addition to learning more about the work itself, we want residents to be able to come away feeling like they know some of the names
and faces of the City staff behind these services.”
The open house will be held rain or shine. Registration is not required, but if you plan on attending, you can express your interest through the City’s Facebook event at bit.ly/BigTrucksEdina22,
which will aid in planning. Free hot dogs, snacks and refreshments will be served. Parking will be available in the main lot, with overflow parking available across the street at 7400
