The family in the house noticed smoke in the home a few hours after the fireplace had been extinguished. They discovered fire in the wall above the fireplace and used two fire extinguishers prior to exiting and calling 911. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly, confirmed the family’s safety and then located and extinguished the fire. “Tis the season for utilizing fireplaces,” said Fire Marshal David Ehmiller. “Please have your fireplaces cleaned and inspected annually.” No injuries were reported. Ehmiller said the family of the house had working smoke detectors which aided in their quick escape. They were able to return to their home after the fire.
