Officers Emily Zeise and Carter Anderson took the oath to serve the community at a Feb. 6 ceremony at Edina City Hall. A native of Owatonna, Zeise attended one year at Minnesota State University – Mankato before deciding to join the Army National Guard. After attending basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, she was placed in the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade in Minnesota. Zeise was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq for one year. After returning to Minnesota, she decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. She attended Inver Hills Community College and majored in law enforcement. In 2021, she became a Community Service Officer for the Edina Police Department. Anderson grew up in Fridley and attended the University of Minnesota – Duluth (UMD), majoring in criminology and Hispanic studies. Anderson has been speaking and studying Spanish for 11 years. He enrolled in the police academy program at Hennepin Technical College. Before landing his new Patrol Officer position with the Edina Police Department, he was a safety and security officer for HealthPartners, police intern for St. Louis Park and Teaching Assistant at UMD. “Being a police officer is not easy. We're seeing many more challenges today than in years past. But it's those challenges that make this profession so rewarding. These two will have many opportunities to make someone's life better, and that's why we do this job,” said Chief Todd Milburn. “It's a calling that takes a special person to do this work, and I know Emily and Carter will both do great.” For more information on the Edina Police Department, visit EdinaMN.gov/Police. -30-
