Edina Police Department hires new patrol officer
Edina, Minn., Jan. 8, 2013 – Jacob Heckert was recently sworn in as the Edina Police Department’s newest
officer.
Heckert began work as a Police Officer Jan. 2. City Clerk Debra Mangen administered the oath to him Jan. 7.
His wife, Lisa, pinned his badge, No. 103.
In 2004, Heckert graduated with a degree in law enforcement from Minnesota State University -- Mankato
and is on track to receive his master’s in public administration from Metro State University this fall.
Heckert comes to Edina from the Minnetrista Police Department where he served as a patrol officer for eight
years. In addition to patrolling the streets, Heckert’s duties included teaching defensive tactics, serving as the
crime prevention specialist and union steward.
“Jacob is an excellent addition to our team. We are excited to have an experienced officer joining our
department,” said Police Chief Jeff Long. “Officer Heckert has a proven track record of providing quality
service to the public and a work ethic that is second to none.”
Heckert says he looks forward to his career with the City of Edina and the opportunities a larger police
department will provide.
