La Manna began work as a Police Officer Feb. 5. City Clerk Debra Mangen administered the oath to him Feb. 7. Surrounded by family, his wife, Melissa, pinned his badge, No. 106. La Manna graduated with a degree in criminal justice from California State University, Los Angeles. After working as a collections and receivables coordinator for a mid-size law firm, La Manna decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. “I’ve always loved the sense of duty,” said La Manna. “But I had to decide whether I wanted to attend law school or further my education in law enforcement.” After being hired by the State of California’s Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations Division, La Manna graduated from the Golden West Police Academy in Huntington Beach, Calif., in 2009. While with the State of California, La Manna made a parallel move to serve as an investigator for the Department of Insurance Fraud Division. Raised in Los Angeles County, La Manna comes to Edina with a fresh perspective. “We’re excited to have Jamie join our department,” said Police Chief Jeff Long. “His experience will be a valuable asset to our police department and to the residents of Edina.” La Manna says he’s looking forward to being part of a good team. “What better way to say ‘thank you’ to the City that’s going to be taking care of my family, than putting myself on the front line for it,” said La Manna.
