This year, Hovland is leading a monthly two-mile walk the third Saturday morning of every month at varying locations. Those interested in walking and talking with Hovland this month should meet at 8:30 a.m. inside the lobby of the Arena, 7501 Ikola Way. The walk will be held indoors and should take about an hour. “The West Arena bowl seating creates a natural walking track. We simply added a stripe, some signage and created a fitness opportunity that is open to the public,” said Braemar Arena General Manager Susie Miller. “The only time the track is closed is when there is a ticketed event occurring in the West Arena. It provides a great opportunity for the community to use an existing resource for a means of exercise.” Following the Walk with the Mayor, Braemar Arena will host an open house for the Hornets Nest from 10 a.m. to noon. The Hornets Nest is an addition that includes boys and girls locker rooms and space leased by General Sports and Velocity Training Center. The Open House will begin with a short program inside Velocity Training Center, followed by refreshments, continuous tours and appearances by the Edina High School mascot and hockey teams. General Sports will offer a discount on all purchases made during the open house. “If you want a place to walk indoors during the winter months, at no cost but the gas to get there, then Braemar is a wonderful opportunity for you,” Hovland said. “Touring the new Hornets Nest is also a great benefit from joining this month’s Walk (and talk) with the Mayor and other residents. I hope you will join us!” For more information on the Walk With the Mayor, contact Recreation Supervisor Donna Tilsner, 952-826- 0432.
