Training Facility To Hold Free Women’s Fire Expo
Edina, Minn., April 25, 2013 –The Edina Fire Department will team with a number of area fire departments
and the North Star Women’s Firefighters Association to bring the eighth-annual Women’s Fire Service Expo to
Edina.
The expo will be held at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd., on Saturday, May 4,
from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This free, half-day event is meant to give women who have considered becoming firefighters an opportunity to
network with local departments and other women firefighters, try out equipment and go through scenarios that
they would face day to day as a member of a fire department. Scenarios include tearing apart a car and putting
out a structure fire.
“The number of women firefighters is constantly growing,” said Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer. “This expo
gives women who might be interested in learning more about firefighting a pressure-free way to see what it’s
like.”
