Overnight Fire Damages Edina Duplex
Edina, Minn., June 22, 2013 – The Edina Fire Department responded to a duplex fire early Saturday
morning.
At approximately 3:29 a.m., crews were called to the 5300 block of 70th Street after a resident of one of the
duplex units was awaken by an audible alarm, and discovered a fire in the garage. The first crews on-scene
reported a working fire, with smoke billowing from the eaves of the building.
Two alarms were called, bringing mutual aid from Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Richfield, St. Louis Park and
Hennepin County EMS. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The garage suffered moderate damage
while the structure and common attic space received minor damage. Smoke damage also occurred to both units.
“Working smoke detectors cut the chances of dying in a house fire in half,” said Edina Fire Chief Marty
Scheerer. “Thanks to the smoke detectors here, lives were saved and the fire was caught early, saving more of
the structure from damage.”
The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
