The contest is open to anyone who lives or attends school in Edina, or who has done so in the past. Entries will be judged on the extent to which they creatively portray Edina’s history or community nature. Fiction and non-fiction work are eligible in the form of biography, memoir, poetry, lyric, script and short story. Rules of the contest are:  The work may not exceed 3,000 words or have been previously published to the general public.  Entries must be typed in double-spaced form.  Contact information and time of residency or school attendance must be provided with the entry.  Entries are due 5 p.m. Oct. 1. They can be submitted via email to edfoundation@EdinaMN.gov, hand- delivered to the Edina Library front desk, or mailed to Edina Community Foundation, 5280 Grandview Square, Edina, MN 55436.  Submissions will not be returned. Separate awards will be offered for youth and adult writers, with all individuals under age 21 as of Oct. 1 considered in the “youth” category. Awards in each category will include a $500 first prize and $250 second prize. Awards will be presented and excerpts from the winning works read by the author or designated reader at an Edina Reads program on Nov. 18. The winning entries and possibly more will be posted with the permission of the author on the Edina Reads website, www.edinareads.org. The Edina Reads Committee is led by the Edina Community Foundation, Edina Library and Friends of the Edina Library, with support from Edina Community Education Services, Edina High School, Edina Senior Center and Edina League of Women Voters. Representatives of those organizations serving on the Committee, together with a representative of the Edina Quasquicentennial Committee, will judge the entries.
