Voting Opens for 2013 Edina Sculpture Exhibit
Edina, Minn., July 2, 2013 – Voting is now open for People’s Choice Awards of the 11 new sculptures
featured in the fifth-annual Edina Sculpture Exhibit of the Edina Public Art Committee (EPAC).
The new sculptures represent a mix of realism, whimsical and abstract art in three locations: the Edina
Promenade, Grandview Square Park and 50th & France.
Sculptures with the most votes will be named winners of the 2013 People’s Choice Awards, which will be
announced in October. The top three winners will receive stipends of $1,000, $750 and $500. The artist
will also be invited to exhibit for an additional year. Everyone can vote only one time for their favorite
piece. Paper ballots can be found at each of the three sites in bright yellow voting boxes in the form of an
abstract figure.
Photos of the 11 new sculptures will be featured at the Galleria near the information desk throughout the
summer.
Edina Promenade
The Edina Promenade features five new artworks, joining last year’s three People’s Choice Winners as well
as several permanent sculptures given to the City. The area is an appealing destination for walkers and
bikers at the north end of Centennial Lakes Park.
The new sculptures are “Leap Frog,” a bronze of two children playing by Art Norby, New London, Minn.;
“Standing Bear,” a seven-foot steel figure giving the illusion of a bear looking out into the distance for her
cubs by Karl Friedrich, Rochester, Minn.; “Slapshot,” a plate steel sculpture of a hockey player by Judd
Nelson, Wayzata, Minn.; “Look and You Will Find It,” a bronze expressing a range of emotions in six figures
by Kate Christopher, Mahtomedi, Minn.; and “Escaped from the Depths,” a steel and concrete blue-and-
silver dragon by Chris Gustafson, Watkins, Minn. “Escaped from the Depths” was created by the 24-year-
old artist when he was 14.
Grandview Square Park
At Grandview Square Park, three new pieces include “Number Seven,” a life-size horse made of horseshoes
by Kristen Piersa Kregel, Bloomington, Minn., reflecting her connection to animals. A burst of energy, “Éclat
d'énergie” by emerging artist Brandon Lee, Minneapolis, Minn., is an abstract made of bronzed steel. The
whimsical Egghead reading a book by Kimber Fiebiger, Minneapolis, Minn., is part of the Humpty Dumpty
series for which she’s become known.
50th & France
The three new pieces at 50th & France include “Intersection” by Steve Elliott, Wayne, Neb., a nine-foot
abstract work of stainless steel located at 50th Street and Halifax Avenue. “Look Closer” by Nicklas Legeros
is a circular glass-and-bronze sculpture modeled after his son. It is next to the fountain across from
Landmark’s Edina Cinema. “Jester Light” by Kimber Fiebiger is a whimsical, swirling colorful bronze
sculpture meant to amuse. Located near the intersection of 50th & France, the working lamp comes on in

the evening with the City lights.
Sculpture plaques with QR codes will be mounted near each of the sculptures
later this month. Free downloadable QR Readers for smart phones and tablets will
enable viewers to learn more about the sculptures and artists and will also have links to
EPAC and Edina Art Center websites.
Partnerships with the Edina Community Foundation, 50th & France Business & Professional Association and
the Galleria have supported this year’s exhibit.
