By visiting www.nextdoor.com residents can join free, address protected microsites for their neighborhoods to ask questions, exchange information and advice. ‘‘Edina is excited to support neighborhood initiatives and communication with our new Neighborhood Association Policy,” said Edina Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt, “Through Nextdoor, the City will be able to post information by neighborhood, and reach neighbors quickly.” Nextdoor is free and completely voluntary, split up between the 45 city-recognized neighborhoods. Safety announcements, parties, school activities, sales and lost pets are common messages the Nextdoor has found to be useful. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood. Nextdoor never shares personal information to third parties. "Nextdoor is a secure but very effective way to get connected with your neighbors,” said Edina resident Hope Melton, whose Concord neighborhood has been using Nextdoor since September. “It's great for selling things, asking for a baby sitter, organizing a picnic, or whatever you want to do. It builds a sense of community, and gets you lots of useful information!" The Nextdoor website is just a part of a series of new Edina initiatives enacted since last spring including; new city neighborhood policies. Updated information on the city website; and city workshops held to educate citizens on the value of neighborhood organization.
