Edina Arts & Culture Commission seeks volunteers for working
group
Edina, Minn., Oct. 10, 2013 – The Edina Arts & Culture Commission is looking for volunteers to serve on
its new Music in Edina Working Group, charged with developing a vision and strategic plan for enhancing the
musical offerings in the community.
Goals of the working group will be set by its members, but will be related to the mission established by City
Council in May 2013 in partnership with the Edina Arts & Culture Commission to “build a vibrant community,
foster common bonds, nurture talent and create venues for expressing and appreciating arts and culture in
Edina.”
“We want to bring together the many Edina residents who are involved in or have an interest in music in
Edina,” said Arts & Culture Commissioner Paul Peterson. “The Music in Edina Working Group will identify
opportunities for augmenting the Edina music scene and establish a vision for future development.”
The process is expected to include several meetings, the formation of sub-groups on specific interests and
lots of conversations in the community. Peterson and fellow Edina Arts & Culture Commissioner Kandace
Ellis hope the working group will complete its work and make recommendations to the Commission by mid-
2014.
The Music in Edina Working Group will meet 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Fireside Room of the
Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square. Anyone interested in participating in the working group should
attend the meeting. The group’s future meeting schedule will likely be established at the initial meeting.
