do.Town wins APAMN ‘Excellence in Community
Engagement’ Award
Edina, Minn., Oct. 4, 2013 – The Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association (APAMN)
recently recognized the do.Town initiative with its “Excellence in Community Engagement Award.”
do.Town was an 18-month joint project of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota’s Center for Prevention
and the cities of Bloomington, Edina and Richfield. Funded by tobacco settlement dollars, do.Town aimed to
inspire and encourage residents to get and stay active and eat healthy through various programs and events.
City Council Member Mary Brindle and Katherine Bass, who were both do.Town leaders and advocates,
accepted the award Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Upper Midwest Planners Conference in Rochester, Minn.
Edina City Manager Scott Neal is very proud of the award, and feels it shines a light on one of Edina City
Council’s main goals. “It recognizes one of the Council’s important priorities for City staff – that we be good
at community engagement,” he said.
