Celebrations will start bright and early Friday morning at the Golf Dome, 7420 Braemar Blvd., with KARE 11 Sunrise’s Bryan Piatt reporting from the Dome at 5:45 and 6:45 a.m. The dome is scheduled to open to the public at 8 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. each day. From 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, local author Roger Harrold will sign copies of his book, Braemar: Celebrating a Forty-Year History of Braemar Golf Course. On Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., there will be a special meet- and-greet appearance by the “Official Unofficial Ambassador to Minnesota Golf,” KFAN’s own “Common Man” Dan Cole. Sunday’s guest appearances will be from the University of Minnesota’s Goldy the Gopher and Edina High School’s Eddie the Hornet from 1 to 2 p.m. Besides personal appearances, the Golf Dome will hold free 10-minute “mini” private lessons with Braemar Golf Professionals 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, as well as Hole-in-One contests 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be giveaways, holiday gift card promotions, and complimentary coffee (while supplies last) each day. The Braemar Golf Dome is a new facility built on the site of the old Golf Dome, which was destroyed by a fire in February 2012. The new facility includes a new fire suppression system to prevent another fire from sparking. A brighter dome and improved insulation will bring heat up to the driving deck and to the top of the dome to help melt snow. The insulation will significantly improve energy savings. The facility has a separate lobby that is not directly connected to the dome. The City also worked with the local watershed district to upgrade drainage on the property, with storm water being stored in containers under the parking lot.
