Post 925 won first place in the “Traffic Stops” and third place in “Crime Scene Investigation” competitions. To keep participants’ skills sharp and introduce them to realistic scenarios that will benefit their careers, 52 Explorers teams from Minnesota participated in this year’s competition. “It was a lot of fun, they’re a more experienced group and they stepped up. You never know how it’s going to turn out but they did really well,” said Explorers Advisor and Eden Prairie Police Officer Rob Johnston, “The Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer group is always well represented.” The Traffic Stop event was a mock traffic stop in which participants are to follow state law while leading to an arrest of drug possession and outstanding warrants. The Crime Scene Investigation competition was a staged homicide in a front yard where competitors acted as detectives and crime lab officers, taking photos, sketching the scene, and locating and collecting evidence to put together a case. Explorer Post 925 is made up of 26 Edina and Eden Prairie students interested in law enforcement. Members range in age from 14 to 21. The Explorers learn firsthand about the law enforcement profession through lectures, practical scenarios, ride-alongs and volunteering with the police departments. Post 925 is part of a national program that includes more than 33,000 Explorers and 8,425 adult advisors. Post 925 meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd., in Edina.
