Corrigan Custom Homes, based in Eden Prairie, was working on the home, underpinning the crawlspace to create additional room in the basement. At the time of the accident, construction crews were working on a drainpipe. Dirt in the hole shifted, causing the large piece of concrete to fall on the man’s leg, pinning him in the trench. The fill concrete was there from a previous project. When Edina Fire and Rescue crews arrived, the man was alert and conscious. Due to the forecasted heat, additional rescue crews were called in to assist in the operation. “This is exactly why we have a special operations team and train together,” Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer said. “The rescue couldn’t have gone any smoother thanks to the hard work and cooperation of all the other departments.” After about two hours and 20 minutes, crews were able to free the man. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was treated and released. In a written statement, the patient said, “[The rescue crews] did a top-notch job and made me comfortable throughout the rescue. They were absolutely professional.” For more information, visit www.EdinaMN.gov/fire or call 952-826-0330. -30-
