The display will begin at 10 p.m. “There’s no more appropriate way to cap off your Independence Day celebrations than with a fireworks show,” said Kristin Aarsvold, Recreation Supervisor. “And if you’re from or near Edina, there’s no need to drag the family to downtown Minneapolis to get the full experience.” This year’s show may just warrant heading out a little early to stake out a good spot. The Edina Community Foundation, through a generous donation from Fairview Southdale Hospital, is bringing in a knowledgeable pyrotechnics vendor who, along with the traditional array, will showcase several innovative aerial fireworks that recently scored high marks in an international competition in Asia. The show will start following an 8:45 p.m. concert by Edina’s own John Philip Sousa First Memorial Band, a 40- member ensemble supported by the Parks & Recreation Department. The Edina Lions Club will also be on hand selling a variety of concessions. As always, safety is of paramount concern. The stretch of 66th Street West between Cornelia Drive and West Shore Drive, including the Lake Cornelia pedestrian path, will be closed noon Wednesday, July 4, until the following morning. “As a precaution, the Fire Department will search the vicinity for unexploded devices before these areas are opened again to regular traffic,” said Tom Jensen, Fire Marshal. The Rosland Park fireworks display is only the finale of a very eventful holiday for Edina. Visit www.EdinaParade.org to learn more about the annual Fourth of July Parade earlier in the day. -30-
