Edina Community Foundation Intern Kate Anderson, who is coordinating the do.town event, said the evening is geared toward bringing families together and encouraging time outdoors. “With the spirit of the Summer Olympics, we want to provide a fun opportunity for residents to get outside and spend time with their families,” said Anderson. “There will be something for everyone!” The Edina Family Olympics will include bean-bag shot put, disc toss, egg toss and race, family-legged race, ladder golf, parent pony rides, squirt gun shaving and more. The event will also feature an hour-long yoga class and Irish dancing clinic among other activities. At dusk, participants are invited to stay and watch “The Green Hornet” on an inflatable screen in the park. Anderson said families are also encouraged to bring healthy snacks for a picnic in the park. “Not only do we want to promote active lifestyles, but healthy eating, too,” she said. “All these things together create a healthy lifestyle.” Through do.town -- a collaborative initiative of the cities of Bloomington, Edina and Richfield, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) -- the City is working to involve residents and make changes that support healthy eating and active lifestyles. “The Family Olympics is a great do.town event in Edina,” said Katherine Bass, Blue Cross Senior Project Manager for do.town and Edina resident. “Just as incremental changes can transform our community to be a healthier place to live, work and play, families can make small changes every day to establish healthy choices as the norm for a lifetime of good health.” do.town staff will be hand at the event to talk with residents about their ideas and how to get involved. The event is free and open to the public. All ages are invited to participate. For more information, contact Anderson at 952-457-2377 or katcanderson@gmail.com. -30-
