Edina Police Wins ‘Battle of the Badges’
Edina, Minn., Sept. 25, 2012 – The Edina Police Department took home first place in the Battle of the
Badges blood drive competition this summer.
The Edina Police Department received 75 votes from the community and collected 65 units of blood, beating
Rogers Police and Fire Departments by three votes. Third place went to last year’s winner, Anoka County,
which finished with 47 votes.
“This win emphasizes the importance of the community pulling together for an important cause. I have seen
the need for blood first hand in my personal and professional life,” said Edina Chief of Police Jeff Long. “The
Edina Police Department is proud of our relationship with the community and are very appreciative of the
support shown with this event.”
Memorial Blood Centers’ Battle of the Badges event challenges Fire and Police departments from across the
greater metropolitan area in a friendly-competitive race to save and sustain lives through blood donation.
The next City of Edina blood drive will be held 9 a.m. Dec. 12 at Edina City Hall.
