In 2012, all levels of government want to ensure that no American is left out. On Tuesday, Sept. 25, City Clerk Debra Mangen and the League of Women Voters of Edina will join organizations all over the country for National Voter Registration Day to register qualified voters. Residents who have not registered to vote may come to City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St., any time from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. that day to register in the lobby. To be qualified, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years old and have resided in Minnesota for at least 20 days before the election. In addition to drawing in new voters, Mangen hopes National Voter Registration Day helps improve the Election Day process. In 2008, 3,675 new registrations were processed in Edina on Election Day. Since each registration can take up to 10 minutes, cutting down that number of Election Day registrations should allow residents to more quickly cast their ballots. The General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6. That day, Edina voters will also elect their Mayor and two Council Members.
