The proposed map can be found online at www.SpeakUpEdina.org/discussions and on the City’s website at www.EdinaMN.gov. Maps are also available for review at the Edina Senior Center, Edina Art Center, Hughes Pavilion at Centennial Lakes Park, Edina Community Library, Southdale-Hennepin Area Library and City Hall. The proposed city-wide neighborhood map is the culmination of several months of work by the volunteer Neighborhood Identification Steering Committee. The committee gathered input through a community survey, three community meetings, online feedback and neighborhood canvassing. The committee will accept additional input until Saturday, Oct. 20. Feedback can be made online at www.SpeakUpEdina.org/discussions or by writing to Name Your Neighborhood, Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. Comments can also be sent via email to mail@EdinaMN.gov. “The committee has already received a lot of input, which has helped set and clarify boundaries and neighborhood names across the city,” said Hope Melton, chair of the Neighborhood Identification Steering Committee. “The committee has worked hard to listen and balance all of the input we are receiving. The goal is to make the best recommendation possible to the Council in December.” Once the “Name Your Neighborhood” project is complete, residents will have the opportunity to join City- recognized civic neighborhood associations. According to Melton, “Civic neighborhood associations will help share important local news, provide opportunities for increased citizen participation, and increase communication between the City and residents.” Forming or joining a neighborhood association will be voluntary. Neighborhood associations will serve as a vehicle for communication and collective action, but they will not replace the City’s current public input process or inhibit the ability of residents to speak about their individual concerns. The committee is expected to make a recommendation to the City Council in December. The City Council will likely take action on a neighborhood map in January 2013.
